Cover photo info
- Photo title: The Pomelo, Citrus maxima or Citrus grandis
- Author: Sarfrazalii
- Cover photo description:
- Typically, the fruit is pale green to yellow when ripe, with sweet white & x28;or, more rarely, pink or red& x29; flesh, and a very thick albedo & x28;rind pith& x29;. It is a large citrus fruit, 15–25 centimetres & x28;5.9–9.8 in& x29; in diameter, usually weighing 1–2 kilograms & x28;2.2–4.4 lb& x29;. Leaf petioles are distinctly winged. The fruit tastes like a sweet, mild grapefruit& x28;believed to be a hybrid of Citrus maxima and the orange& x29;, although the typical pomelo is much larger than the grapefruit, and also has a much thicker rind. The pomelo has none, or very little, of the common grapefruit& x27;s bitterness, but the enveloping membranous material around the segments is bitter, considered inedible, and thus is usually discarded.
